Network Rail admitting a series of criminal charges over a crash which killed three people makes several of Scotland’s front pages. The Scottish Sun quotes one survivor of the train derailment near Stonehaven in 2020 as saying the disaster was “absolute negligence”.
The Scotsman reports from the court in Aberdeen that the driver – who was one of those killed – was given the all clear moments before reaching a landslip.
A union has called for corporate manslaughter charges, the Herald writes. The paper says Network Rail has failed to carry out vital recommendations made in the wake of the crash three years ago.
The Daily Record says the crash was caused by a “shocking catalogue of errors”.

The National reports on a debate in Westminster, where House of Commons Leader Penny Mordant said she had learnt on a visit to Scotland that Victorian diseases such as rickets had returned to some cities and bin men were avoiding some areas in Glasgow because of rat infestations. An SNP MP said her views were offensive, the paper reports.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is said to be against the idea of issuing more work and student visas to India in return for a trade deal the Telegraph reports. The paper also features a large image of on the run former soldier Daniel Khalife on its front page.

The Edinburgh News reports that two orphans who sought sanctuary in Scotland after fleeing Russia’s war on Ukraine were among three victims of a racist attack in which a child was stabbed. The paper quotes a resident from near the scene on Niddrie Mains Road as saying they would have been “safer in Ukraine”.
School workers have been “left with no option” but to strike later this month, the Glasgow Times reports. Two unions have announced thousands of staff, including cleaners, caterers, janitors and support assistants, will take part in strikes on September 26, 27 and 28, it adds.
